Why would one fear succeeding? Do you fear success or failure?

The fear of success, in my opinion, is  a learned behavior that often has its beginnings in the idea of "safety".

I don't know if there is a good general answer to this questions. First you need to focus in a bit on your general idea - what is it you would like to succeed at doing?

Recently read something that indicates that fear of success my indeed be in part a chemical reaction.  The chemical emitted into the bloodstream when in a state of positive expectation is different than the chemical emitted into the bloodstream when in a state of fear and doubt.  We may in fact be addicticted to fear of success and it accompanying emotions blame, guilt, anger, etc.
